Dress Code
Sequoia Middle School is dedicated to providing a safe, secure learning environment for all students. Therefore, we reserve the right to monitor the mode of dress on campus and make appropriate adjustments to 10 the dress of individuals, groups, or the entire student body, as is necessary to maintain a positive learning environment. Dress should be appropriate for school activities. Health and safety are guides to acceptable school attire. Garments must meet acceptable standards and be in good repair. The purpose of these basic dress guidelines is not to infringe on any individual student's right to freedom of expression, but rather to encourage students to "dress for success" and come to school properly prepared for participating in the educational process.
- Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times with dresses, shirts, and shorts an appropriate length for school. Examples of unacceptable clothing would include pajamas, see-through garments, strapless, backless, or halter-tie garments, bare midriff or low-cut garments, muscle shirts, and sagging pants with briefs or boxers showing.
- Clothing and jewelry shall be free of writing, pictures, or any other insignia which is crude, vulgar, profane, gangrelated, sexually suggestive, or which advocates racial, ethnic, or religious prejudice or the use of drugs or alcohol or suggests any act which is illegal or hazardous to one's health.
- Pants must be worn at the waist. Those, which do not stay up at the waist without a belt are too large. This includes sagging pants. Pants, which are intentionally manufactured to be overly large are not permitted, regardless of the waist size. Sewing pleats in oversized pants does not meet the dress code.
- Footwear should be appropriate for normal activities and should have hard comfortable soles and back support. These are some examples that are not allowed: beach thongs or "flip-flops," bedroom slippers, moccasins, footsies.
- Gang attire or paraphernalia is strictly prohibited, including bandannas, head bands, hairnets, and any attire with gang names or monikers or any other paraphernalia, which may be construed as gang related by the school or district administration or the Fontana School Police Department.
- No heavy "wallet type" chains or other heavy chains are to be brought or worn to school.
