Behavior Guidelines

All students are expected to conduct themselves in such a manner as to contribute to a productive learning environment. The purpose of the student discipline policy at Sequoia Middle School is to maintain an educational environment conducive to learning and to protect the order, safety and health of all pupils. Teachers, campus supervisors, and the administration will assist in encouraging students to follow the rules and regulations of the school, the school district, and the laws of the state. Each parent and student is responsible for reading this planner and complying with all the listed procedures, rules, and regulations.

Students Must:
  1. Attend school daily and punctually.
  2. Bring all necessary materials to each class.
  3. Be diligent in study.
  4. Follow school rules, policies, and the directions of all school personnel.
  5. Respect school property and the property of others. Students are responsible for their own property and school materials issued to them. Student planners must be maintained complete (do not graffiti or tear out pages).
  6. Display appropriate social behaviors.
  7. Treat others in a respectful manner.
  8. Report all incidents of threats to harm someone to a trusted adult on campus.
  9. Pass through all areas of the school in a safe and orderly manner.
  10. Take pride in Sequoia! Keep the campus free of litter and graffiti.
Students Must Not:
  1. Fight* - Including horseplay, play fighting, and promoting a fight between other students. Consequences for violation of this rule will include suspension, citation by school police, and may include a recommendation for expulsion.
  2. Harass or intimidate others, verbally or physically, including rumor spreading, eye rolling, exclusion from groups, name calling, etc. Bullying will not be tolerated!
  3. Gamble, cheat, or falsify information.
  4. Bring visitors on campus.
  5. Eat outside the designated lunch areas, or jump or run through the planters.
  6. Bring unsafe or inappropriate items/toys to school that interfere with the educational process or are of no educational value, or use to the pupil at school.
  7. Bring any type of weapon (cap guns, BB guns, pocket knives, pepper spray, stink bombs, matches, lighters, firecrackers, etc.) to school.
  8. Show disrespect or disruptive behavior.
  9. Shoot or throw any objects.
  10. Per city ordinance FCC 15-16, students may not loiter about school grounds, or in any public place during classroom time or they will be subject to citation
  11. Leave school without permission.
  12. Use profanity/bad language.
  13. Sell products other than those permitted by school authorities.
  14. Engage in inappropriate displays of affection (kissing, hugging, etc.).
  15. Activate fire alarm, except in case of fire.
  16. Graffiti or tear out pages of any student planner.
  17. Bring markers, white-out, paint pens, aerosol paints, etc. to school. Any student who possesses aerosol paint containers or felt tip markers with the intent to commit vandalism is guilty of a misdemeanor.

*Fighting will cost you! Penal code 415 and/or 145.5 (a) (1), state that each fighter may be cited and referred to juvenile traffic court in San Bernardino. Each of these penal codes has a fine not to exceed $400.

Please note: graffiti of any kind, whether written on buildings, student planners, equipment, notebooks, homework, etc. will not be tolerated and is punishable by law.

Student Bus Conduct
  1. Keep all parts of the body inside the bus at all times (arms, legs, head, hair, etc).
  2. Keep your hands to yourself and do not bother other students aboard the bus, or outside the bus.
  3. No boisterous conduct, singing, whistling, or other unnecessary noises.
  4. No throwing of any objects inside the bus or out the window.
  5. No profane or vulgar language.
  6. Remain seated at all times with feet and personal belongings out of the aisle.
  7. No eating or drinking aboard the bus except at rest stops on field trips.

Any violation of the aforementioned Student Bus Conduct rules may result in the loss of bus riding privileges.

Graffiti and Tagging

Permanent markers are not allowed on campus. Binders and backpacks must have no writing on them other than the student's name written once or the item(s) will be taken away. Students will be responsible for removing graffiti/tagging or will replace the item if the graffiti/tagging cannot be removed. Graffiti//tagging of school property is considered vandalism and students may be cited by the police.
