Attendance Policy
Attendance/Absences

California State Education Code requires daily school attendance for minors. If a student is absent, please notify the school on the first day of absence. The attendance line is available 24 hours, call: (909) 357-5404 or (909) 357-5405. If parents are unable to call the school about an absence, the student must return with a note from a parent/guardian. The note should contain the following information:

  1. The date the note was written.
  2. The student's first and last name.
  3. The grade of the student (7th or 8th ).
  4. Date(s) of absence.
  5. Full signature of parent or guardian.

Any absence without a valid excuse may be recorded as truancy. Please contact the school office at (909) 357-5400 in advance of any long-term, unavoidable absence to arrange for an Independent Study Contract.

Early Dismissal

Students leaving school early must get a permit from the attendance office to leave campus. Students will be signed out through the office, only to persons who are listed as emergency contacts. I.D. is required to protect the safety of all students. Update emergency contact names regularly through the office.
Please note: Students will not be dismissed from class without a Permit to Leave Class pass having been brought to the classroom teacher.

Tardy Policy

Students are expected to arrive at school and be in each class on time. A student is tardy when s/he is not in the classroom when the bell rings. Teachers may require that students be in their seats when the bell rings. Students who are frequently tardy for school or classes will receive the following consequences:

Under 15 minutes late... (Zangle input every tardy)
  • 1st Tardy - Warning, Teacher counsels student.
  • 2nd Tardy - Teacher counsels student and will make parent contact, either written or verbal. Detention may be assigned.
  • 3rd and 4th Tardy - Teacher counsels student and will make verbal parent contact, and a 30 minute detention is assigned.
  • 5th and 6th Tardy - Teacher marks student tardy and when convenient, sends a referral to the student's counselor. Counselor sends for student, explores ways for student to get to class on time, assigns ASWP, and makes parent contact.
  • 7th Tardy - Same as tardy 5 and 6 with one day of Saturday School assigned, instead of ASWP.
  • 8th Tardy - Same as tardy 5 and 6 with ALC assigned, instead of ASWP.
  • 9th Tardy and beyond - Teacher marks student tardy and when convenient, sends a referral to the office for an administrator to determine the consequence.
15-29 minutes late:

Teacher marks student tardy and student is sent to the attendance office to get a pass (if they don't have one).

Over 29 min. late:

Teacher marks student truant and student is sent to the main office with a referral.

Excused Tardy

If a student is late for school because of illness, a parent or legal guardian must call or send a note. If the student is late due to a medical or dental appointment, the parent must sign the student into school at the attendance office. If a student is late for school or class for a reason other than illness or a medical appointment, it is an unexcused tardy.

Truancy Policy

Education Code Section 48260 states; "Any pupil subject to compulsory full-time education or to compulsory continuation education who is absent from school without a valid excuse more than 3 full days in one school year, or tardy or absent for more than any 30 minute period during the school day without a valid excuse on 3 occasions in 1 school year, or any combination thereof, is a truant and shall be reported to the attendance supervisor or to the superintendent of the school district." Students with excessive absences, truancies, or disciplinary referrals may be prohibited from participating in any or all school extracurricular activities including, but not limited to sports, dances, etc.
