Welcome to the Sequoia School Counseling Web page!
Sequoia has three full-time, credentialed, professional school counselors who help all students achieve school success. Our school counseling program follows the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model for School Counseling. We offer a comprehensive, data-driven program that includes classroom guidance lessons in the areas of personal/social, academic, and college/career, as well as, individual and small group counseling. Sequoia School Counseling Eyrie
The Sequoia mascot is the EAGLE. Eagles build the eyrie (nest) to have a safe place to raise their eaglets (young eagles). The Sequoia school counselors developed the concept of the Counseling Eyrie. Our eaglets develop skills in the areas of: - Academic Development
- Career Development
- Personal/Social Development
Building an eyrie takes a lot of work. Building it branch by branch is the only way to ensure that it is strong and sturdy. Out in the wild, eaglets stay in their eyrie until they are ready to fledge (acquire the feathers necessary to fly). They also learn the skills needed to fly. Sequoia eaglets learn to:
- Relate career interests to academics
- Reduce negative responses to conflict
- Use study skills to achieve success in classes
Under the watchful supervision of adults, eaglets must practice their “skills” in order to be successful. The eyrie is a good place to practice those skills with friends. Sequoia School Counselors want our eaglets to feel safe in their eyrie as they prepare to fledge (learn the skills necessary to succeed in high school, college, and society).
Sequoia School Counseling Mission Statement
The mission of the Sequoia Middle School counseling program is to prepare Sequoia students for success in our ever changing world. Our comprehensive, developmental counseling program addresses academic, career, and personal/social development to assure high levels of learning for ALL students. Sequoia School Counselors advocate for the success of all students. Working with parents, students, staff, and the community, the School Counselors develop, implement, and evaluate programs to assure student success.
